Cathy Pharoah, John Mohan and Peter Backus are featured in the latest edition of ESRC's publication Britain in 2011.

Cathy Pharoah explores the motivation behind charitable giving as the government seeks to build the Big Society in her article 'Generous people and the altruism gene' (pdf).

In John Mohan's article 'The Big Society in practice' (pdf) he looks at the challenges of increasing volunteering, charitable giving and civic participation.

Peter Backus and Dr David Clifford (TSRC) consider the rates at which different charities are growing in their article 'Bigger charities becoming more dominant' (pdf).
